Item Specs
1. Start by removing the roof of the train car. This is usually done by removing screws on the underside of the car or popping tabs. Consult the manual to your train car for proper roof removal.
2. Remove the incandescent light bulbs within the car. Locate the feed wires to the light socket.
---> 2A If you are installing the board in a Lionel car with wedge sockets similar to mini Christmas lights, remove the bulb from the wedge base. Insert the two wires from the board through the bulb base and re-insert into the socket.
---> 2B If it is a different style car, you must attach the red and black wires from the LED board to the two wires feeding the light bulb socket. It does not matter which wires goes to which when using AC. The board will correct the current automatically.
3. Remove the green backing from the sticky pads on the L.E.D. board. Be careful not to touch the sticky pads, this will reduce the sticking ability. Center the board on the roof of the car and press firmly into place making sure the connector wire is not caught underneath.
4. Before reattaching the roof, place the car on the track and apply power. If the car lights, reattach the roof via the two screws under the car. If the car fails to light, check the connector and the internal wiring within the car for loose connections.
NOTE TO DC OPERATORS: If you power your train using a DC transformer, the polarity of the connector plug must be correct for the L.E.D. board to light. Simply reverse the wires if the board does not light the first time.
MODIFICATION NOTE: In the event the board is too long for your train car, you may trim off the length of the board opposite the end with the feed wires using a rotary saw tool. DO NOT remove any LEDs from the board. This will effect the voltage drop within the circuit.
